Eco-friendly Rugs and more

Until recently I thought “greening” meant painting your home green—or at least your walls green—or maybe putting lots of green plants in the house.
Guess what? I was wrong. It means setting up your house in the most eco-friendly way using materials that are natural, maybe even recyclable; certainly fiber and content that is not synthetic.
This may seem like a huge task but I am sure Al Gore is doing it and from the number of magazines out there espousing this theme it has taken hold in a big way.
Natural Home magazine proposes an artistic & eco-friendly dream home, where the entire structure, in and out, is a creation of environmentally friendly blocks made of recycled Styrofoam.
You don’t have to go that far, but there are some ideas you can use to be on the cutting edge of transforming your home into one that will save energy and attack global warming.
Choose green floors: ask for area rugs made of wool as a good way of incorporating natural materials to cover a wood floor. If your furniture hasn’t been designed with eco-friendly natural fabrics, it can be remedied by selecting 100 per cent cotton slipcovers. Organic sheets and linens might be added. Make sure all appliances are energy efficient; and use energy-saving light fixtures and lamps with dimmers, if you can’t afford a solar panel.
Start with a few changes in your soon to be “green house” and pretty soon you will be riding your bike to work!
