It really gives the rug a nice, 3-dimensional appearance and makes it look like a more expensive rug. The navy is true navy. Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase of this rug.

RECOMMENDED: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.I don't feel like the picture gave the actual portrayal of the rug - there are no white dots in the center of the pattern, and there is dark grey bordering the white (which is really cream). The pile was nice and thick and it was a good quality rug. The wool was just too itchy and the pattern didn't fit our room so we returned it.
