This is more like a woven woolen blanket, no pile. It needs a pad to keep it on floor and add some lift. It has pulls in the fabric due to its nature. Yet it is so different and cat proof, that I love it.

This rug was much less substantial than I expected - very thin and flimsy. You would definitely need a grip pad under this rug. I decided to return it, because RugsUSA has better quality rugs for a similar price.
