Let’s be honest: Organizing your home takes some serious effort. Between finding inspiration, deciding what you want to do, taking measurements, actually implementing it, and then sticking with your system, it’s a lot of work! We want to make that whole inspiration-gathering phase a breeze, so we’re turning to you—our brilliant readers and followers—for your best, easy home organization ideas for every room. Keep scrolling, take some notes, and get ready to tidy up!
Make use of vertical space.
Entryways can be notoriously tiny, so take advantage of every inch of space you have—including on the walls! Try installing hooks, pegs, or narrow shelves to hang jackets, bags, keys, and anything else you might need when you’re headed out the door.
Try out a basket + bench combo.
We love adding an entryway bench—they’re perfect for pulling on shoes, they add a homey and welcoming vibe to the space, and they (usually!) have space underneath for storing baskets full of unsightly objects you want tucked out of the way. Don’t need a spot to sit, but still want the storage? Swap out the bench of a slim console table!
Put your most-used items on display.
Sure, kitchen cabinets are great for storing things away. But sometimes, you want your go-to items at an arm’s reach—like this adorable cubby situation for displaying mugs on the counter. Use trays, small baskets, and canisters to artfully arrange anything else on the counter for easy access.
Make every square inch of space count.
Raise your hand if your tiny kitchen is the bane of your existence! We feel your pain, which is why we’re taking notes on every detail from the pint-sized kitchen above. From the hanging spice rack to the XL butcher block on the counter to the coffee station on the console, these easy home organization ideas are must-do’s for a small space!
Create a gourmet coffee station.
A coffee bar, inside our very own home? Dreams! If you’ve run out of room in the kitchen, set up a coffee station in your dining room, living room, hallway, or anywhere else adjacent to the kitchen to save on space and feel just like a milk-frothing, espresso-brewing barista!
Display utilitarian items like decor.
Water pitchers, chopping blocks, watering cans… yep, they can all be stored out in the open, and just about anywhere, too! We love this display of everyday products next to the dining table above, and the way the plants and artwork make the entire look feel elevated.
Take advantage of built-ins.
We know not all homes have built-ins, but if yours does, be sure to use them for all they’re worth! Individual bins are perfect for storing blankets, toys, books—really anything you’d like to grab without digging around in a closet.
Hide baskets in sneaky spots.
And if you don’t have built-ins: We’ve got you! Baskets of all shapes and sizes can be stored in any number of spots in your living room and the rest of your home: tucked under a coffee table, next to the couch, stowed under a chair… if it fits, go for it!
DIY a desk (or two!).
This is one of our favorite easy home organization ideas: a quick-fix, DIY double-desk setup for your work-from-home office space. Simply use three desk-height filing cabinets, place a sturdy piece of wood on top, and that’s it! An automatic new office, with plenty of storage to spare.
Get creative with your wall space.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Take advantage of all that vertical wall space! We love this oversized pegboard setup for displaying decor and office must-haves, and the fact that you can move shelves around to add more storage is the cherry on top.
Bins, bins, and more bins!
Are you tired of us talking about bins and baskets yet? We might sound like a broken record, but seriously: These pieces are your home organization BFFs. Place a pair at the end of the bed (or in any spare spot) to add storage for linens, blankets, sweaters, out-of-season shoes, and anything else.
Show off your accessories.
Yes, hats can be art! We love the idea of displaying pieces that are difficult to store, like hats, on the wall—which both looks great and opens up lots of precious drawer and closet space.
Free up drawer and counter space.
And speaking of freeing up spaces in the dresser, you can do it in kids’ rooms too! Because who wouldn’t want to show off adorable headbands, bows, dolls, and other accessories? Choose shelves, jars, and other pieces that coordinate with furniture in the room to create a cohesive vibe.
Create an organization zone.
The best way to stay organized with kids is to keep it as simple as possible. We love the idea of labeled bins, which will help them learn to put things back in the right spot and make cleaning up so much faster.
Corral all your (cute!) essentials.
Not enough counter space in the bathroom? We can relate! Create more surface area by adding a small tray to the back of your toilet and filling it with soap, a candle, a small plant, and other bathroom essentials for a practical (and pretty!) little vignette.
Extend your cabinets.
If you look closely at the photo above, you’ll see a mini shelf was added to the left side of the sink to store toilet paper, then painted to blend in with the cabinets. Honestly, brilliant! It’s the perfect way to add just a little more storage to a space without disrupting the design.
Open up the doors.
Not all closets need doors! If you’re wanting to display the organized insides, and want to make a room feel a little larger, try removing the doors, as seen above. Simple floating shelves, beadboard panelling, industrial-inspired rods for hanging clothes, and woven baskets (of course!) make this closet a chic extension of the bedroom.
Rack it up.
And now for the last of your easy home organization ideas. If you’ve run out of our closet space, or simply don’t have a closet, we love the idea of using a sleek, simple clothing rack out in the open. Match your outfits colors to the room for extra bonus points!
