When it comes to holiday hosting, sometimes you just want to keep it simple. But simple doesn’t have to be boring, or plain, or not feel special to the guests entering you home! This is evidenced in the very merry and exceedingly easy but beautiful tablescape set by our friend and design aficionado Stevie Watson of @steviemaxine. We asked Stevie to share her top tips for holiday entertaining, and her thoughtful pointers are guaranteed to make your season easier and more enjoyable for you AND your guests. Keep reading, and prepare to take notes!
Walk us through your holiday tablescape look! What were you going for?
For the holidays this year I’m aiming to keep things minimal yet festive. I use my favorite plates and glassware, paired with fresh florals to brighten up the space, and then I add in holiday pieces like antique gold reindeer, faux table-size trees, and always lots and lots of candles.
What’s the key to setting a successful (and beautiful!) holiday table?
I always make sure to sit in every chair to make sure each guest will be comfortable! I want to know that everyone is going to be comfy at the table for longer periods of time. So [keeping the cutter minimal] and setting each spot with appropriate glassware, cutlery etc. Oh, and soft neutral linens! They bring every single table together.
What are your best tips for entertaining, aside from the table?
I’m a make-ahead-as-much-as-possible kinda gal so that I can really enjoy my guests and our time together. I like to pre-make a holiday cocktail, usually a sangria, and have that set aside and ready for guests. The same goes for snacks and appetizers!
What do you love most about entertaining for the holidays?
Would it be weird to say everything? Having a home full of loved ones, twinkle lights on, candles lit, rooms full of laughter… it’s the greatest.
