Between chunky knit sweaters, piles of crunchy leaves, and pumpkin spice everything, there’s so much to love about the magical season that is autumn. And while outdoor activities like leaf peeping, apple picking, and hiking may be on the agenda, we like to focus on what’s happening inside our homes too. The natural beauty of the season lends itself perfectly to any room, and we love the fact that you can keep it up from September through Thanksgiving (and can easily create a spookier setup for Halloween). Check out a few of our favorite easy fall decor ideas below.
Welcome in the Season
Give guests a warm welcome with an entry decked out for the season. Up your curb appeal by hanging a wreath of dried leaves or greenery, and continue the look inside with pumpkins, a leafy arrangement, and a coordinating rug to make the space feel as character-filled and cozy as the rest of your home.
Bring the Outdoors In
This airy living room is proof you can use the beautiful bounty of the season on just about every surface and still not go overboard. Break out your favorite vases, then go foraging for dried branches and greenery for an easy, inexpensive fall decor idea. Our Fading Floral Fringe rug in ivory is the perfect neutral-yet-elevated foundation for all the textures and autumnal colors in the space.
Pick Pumpkins—and Put them Everywhere!
Pumpkins are perfect all season long—break them out in September, give them a spooky makeover for Halloween, and use any uncarved leftovers for your Thanksgiving table and decor. We love this parade of pumpkins on the window seat, which is a clever use of indoor space and looks extra festive from the outside, too. (And we also love how they coordinate with the orange in our Carved Tribal Shag rug!)
Fall is known for its vibrant reds and oranges, but if neutrals are more your thing, something more subdued can feel just as autumnal. Pile up those cream-colored pumpkins, and try pairing them with a mix of natural textures for a rich, cozy vibe.
Shop Your Home
A few reasons fall decor and entertaining is so fun? There are so many options for what you can do with the tablescape, and you can really get creative with what you have. We love the idea of “shopping your home,” meaning borrowing items from other areas in your space and using them as a centerpiece—like the pumpkin- and greenery-filled wooden vessel here.
Go for Greenery
Dried and preserved greenery is a beautiful complement to the bolder colors of autumn—and is easy to hang or place anywhere in your space. If you’re looking for something to last you all through the fall and winter season, greenery is your best bet and is easy to update once Christmas comes around. For extra coziness points in the kitchen, roll out a small rug or runner, like our Distressed Persian rug in light blue shown here. Photo by @fleur_at_home.
Style a Chic Stack
Again, you really can’t go wrong with pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins for your fall decor. A few of various, larger sizes paired with a runner make for an easy centerpiece, but we can also get into the idea of stacking them one on top of the other for a taller, statement-making look. Just make sure you carefully cut the stems off the bottom pumpkins so they stack up nicely.
Keep it Simple
Sometimes, simple is the most beautiful—and the most versatile. A leafy branch (picked at peak fall color) paired with a pomegranate, a trio of brass candlesticks, and a striped table runner feels casual enough for weeknight dinners and festive enough for a Thanksgiving meal.
Trick Out a Tray
Another of our favorite fall decor ideas: solid and striped faux pumpkins grouped together in a woven tray with a small plant. We love the way the centerpiece blends in with the space while giving a subtle nod to the season—and how our layered (and aptly named!) Vintage Autumn rug makes everything feel even more fall-ish.
Grab some Gourds!
Don’t overlook gourds and squash! Any type from the grocery store will look pretty as a fall centerpiece, like acorn, butternut, or delicata squashes. And if they last, you can cook with them for a delicious end-of-season meal.
Easy Does It
Can you tell we’re fans of keeping it simple? Pair a vase filled with tall, dried grasses with a pumpkin of any variety—real or fake, up to you!—for the easiest of fall decor ideas that will feel cozy all season long.
