Q: What was your inspiration for the collection?
A: “My inspiration for creating this collection with Rugs USA was all about bringing nature inside. I design interiors, but I love nothing more than being outside. So in my interiors, I’m always trying to bring in little bits of the natural world. The collection is textural, it’s natural, and there are lots of natural woven and layering pieces.”
Q: How would you describe your design style?
A: “Relaxed, natural, and collected. I have five kids and three dogs, so I like things to look really beautiful but be super functional and comfortable. It’s all about creating a warm, inviting place that feels like home with a down-to-earth vibe.
When I’m designing a room for someone, I really want to make sure the space feels personal and like their personality. When I was designing this collection with Rugs USA, I wanted to make sure each of the rugs had a perspective and really brought character into a space.”
Q: What do you love most about your collection?
A: “The jutes have to be some of my favorites. We’ve got your really beautiful, typical woven jutes, but we also have rugs that look like classical styles with jute woven into them.”
Q: Why are rugs important when decorating a space?
A: “Rugs are so important in a space. They take up so much square footage in a room and really set the tone and vibe.
There are actually a lot of times I start my designs from a rug. It’s one of the first things that I’ll use as a building block for the space. If you go for something with a lot of pattern, it creates a totally different energy than something that’s more neutral. I love the power that rugs have to completely transform a room.”
Q: What do you look for in a good rug?
A: “I want to make sure that it looks good, and I want it to be soft. I know I’m probably going to be on the ground with my kids or dogs on the rug. So it has to feel good. And it has to be durable and stand up to daily family life.”
It also needs to be timeless and something I could keep for the rest of my life. I am not into trends. If it is a trend, it has to be one I’m going to love forever. I really think it’s important that when you’re bringing such a big piece into your home—that it’s something that you really love, no matter if it’s in or out.”
