First things first: there’s absolutely nothing wrong with rolling out a rug the regular, old-fashioned way (in fact, we’d say it’s one of our favorite things to do!). But sometimes, you just want to mix it up! So we scoured the feeds of some of our favorite Instagram follows for some unconventional rug-spiration—and were definitely not disappointed! Keep reading to discover brilliantly unique rug ideas to give your space a refresh.

#1: Add an Accent Rug Over Carpet
Stuck with wall-to-wall carpeting you’re not in love with? Want to add some extra color and pattern to your space? Need to cover up a stain? (We won’t tell on that last one!) Here’s your super-simple solution: layer a smaller accent rug on top. We love the idea of bringing in a runner to spruce up a small hallway, or rolling out a 3′ x 5′ rug next to your bedside for added comfort and style.

#2: Layer Your Faux Sheepskin—Anywhere!
Sure, we love our faux sheepskin collection for its soft feel and cozy look. But we also love it for its versatility—you really can put them on anything! You can of course layer them on top of a rug or carpet, but don’t shy away from getting creative. Drape one across a bed, throw one on a bench, try it on the back of a couch or chair… really—anything goes!

#3: Pair Patterned Styles
You know all about layering rugs (and if you don’t, learn more about it here!). The usual combination pairs a jute rug with something more patterned—but have you considered doubling up on the prints and patterns? We say go for it! We’re loving the doubled-up Moroccan prints in the room above, which add such a unique spin to the space.

#4: Fake Wall-to-Wall Carpeting
If you want to fake the appearance of wall-to-wall carpeting, or need another solution for covering up existing carpeting you’re not so fond of, take cues from the two images above. Both use XL sizes of our Jute Braided rug to create the appearance of carpet—and honestly, you’re hardly able to tell the difference! Layer another rug or faux sheepskin on top for bonus points.

#5: Arrange on the Bias
You’ll usually find rugs rolled out parallel to walls and floor plans. But why not mix it up a little? If you have an unconventional furniture layout, or want to embrace a more carefree, boho-inspired look, turn your rug at an angle to create an entirely fresh perspective.

#6: Spruce Up a Small Corner
Every space in a home deserves a rug—even the smallest of spaces! Warm up cozy reading nooks, tiny office setups, and any other petite or corner spots with a small 2’ x 3’ or 3’ x 5’ rug. We promise it will make all the difference and make the area feel more a part of your home.

#7: Layer Different Shapes
Here’s another layering technique that’s got us swooning! Try pairing different shapes together—rectangle, square, round, oval, sheepskin—to create a pleasing and unforgettable contrast in your space.
