We love setting wellness, professional, and other personal goals to help usher in a new year. But right now, we’re focused on creating our 2021 resolutions for the home. To get a few ideas, we’ve turned to you—our trusty readers and followers on Instagram—and can’t help but feel inspired and excited for all the amazing things on the agenda for your homes this year. Keep reading to see what your top resolutions are, along with some simple tips from our team for pulling it all off.
Resolution #1: Get Cozy
So many of you mentioned upping the cozy factor in your homes, and we couldn’t agree with that sentiment more—especially since we’re all spending so much of our time in them right now. If that’s on your 2021 to-do list, we have a few ideas.
First: Pile on the blankets and pillows! We know it’s an obvious tip, but really—nothing feels so cozy as enveloping yourself in a mound of pillows and warm blankets. And of course, we have to touch on rugs, which are a great way to bring in all sorts of soft new textures. Shag rugs are perfect for creating an all-around cozy vibe in a space, and we have hundreds of styles in a variety of sizes. If you’re looking for something smaller-scale, we love throwing a faux sheepskin on top of an existing rug, on the sofa, or at the end of the bed to create another spot for snuggling up.

Resolution #2: Renovate, Renovate, Renovate!
Whether the kitchen, dining room, laundry room, or pool, it seems like everyone has some sort of renovation project on their brain. And while we can’t offer advice on, say, tearing out cabinets or tiling a pool, we can share a few design-focused ideas to help get your space in shape once the renovations are done.
If you need help choosing a new rug, check out this article, which is geared toward new movers but absolutely applies to newly renovated spaces as well—especially those where you’re decorating from scratch. And when you do get that new rug in, take a look at our Rug Guides to learn everything you need to know about unpacking and rolling out your rug.

Resolution #3: Refresh with Rugs
We were thrilled to hear so many of you had buying new rugs on the agenda this year. And with our big Fresh Look sale happening right now, it’s the perfect time to go ahead and cross that off the to-do list.
Several of you mentioned getting a new rug for the living room, particularly a style that is durable and won’t show dirt. For materials, we recommend going with wool, synthetics like polypropylene or nylon, cotton, or jute, and then picking a pattern that will help camouflage any messes.
New rugs for the dining room were also on resolution lists, including a round jute style to place under a midcentury modern dining table (see our lovely Jute Braided Saturn Border rug above!). Our new washable rugs are another great option for the dining room, and can simply be tossed in the washer to clean and get rid of spots.

Resolution #4: Finally Nail a WFH Setup
With so many working from home these days, it’s no surprise that several resolutions were about creating a better home office setup—aka, a dedicated space to work that isn’t in bed or at the dining room table. For tips to get started and some inspiration, head over to this article, which outlines the best way to create a space that’s pretty and promotes productivity.
Resolution #5: Tidy with Intention
What would a list of new year resolutions be without a mention of organizing and decluttering? While we can confidently say we’re experts on rugs, we’ll admit when it comes to this, we’re turning to our favorite pros who consistently blow us away with their organizational prowess: Joanna and Clea of The Home Edit, Jamie and Fillip Hord of Horderly, Samantha of Simply Organized, and Jamie of Better than B4. Happy organizing!
