Q: What are some small/inexpensive changes I can do to refresh my space?
A: Call us biased, but here’s our honest answer: Roll out a new rug! It’s truly the easiest way to refresh your space on a budget.
On a more specific level, consider layering a smaller-sized (and therefore, less expensive!) rug on top of an existing rug in your space, as seen in the swoon-worthy room above. It’s one of our go-to moves for giving a room a fresh new look, and we love that it’s an option that won’t break the bank. Find all the know-how and inspiration for getting your layered look on here!
Beyond rugs, we have a few other tricks up our sleeves for giving your space a quick update. Try adding a pouf, new lighting, or both to any area you’re wanting to spruce up. As you can see in our post here, these small additions make a world of a difference in filling out and finishing up a room!
Q: I tend to switch out my rug a lot. How do you recommend storing the ones I don’t use?
A: Whether you’re bringing an outdoor rug inside for the season, or simply swapping out indoor rugs for a fresh look, it’s important to store your rugs properly to keep them clean and mildew-free.
First, you’ll want to have the rug professionally cleaned before rolling it up to ensure lingering dirt and other contaminants are properly removed. Once it’s cleaned, tightly roll up the rug with the pile facing inward. Wrap the rug in paper or place in a rug storage bag, which can be found at most home improvement stores. Then place on a shelf or in another spot that’s not directly on the floor. Make sure you’re not putting any heavy objects on top of the rug—this could cause permanent creasing.
We generally recommend against storing rugs in unfinished basements and attics, since those areas tend to be moist and can promote mildew growth within the rug fibers.
Q: What rugs should I consider for all seasons?
A: In our view, rugs are pretty much seasonless. Unlike fashion, there’s no need to change out your rugs from season to season—that is, unless you like switching up your look and have the space to store extra rugs! (Don’t let us stop you there—we love the idea of swapping out rugs based on mood and time of year!)
That being said, rugs made of synthetic materials, wool, or cotton feel the most “seasonless” to us—meaning they don’t have that slightly summery woven feel of a jute rug, or the extra-cozy vibes of a shag.
Q: How can I make my home feel cozy for fall?
A: Along with pumpkin spice, lighting the fireplace, and the crunch of leaves, decorating the home for fall is one of our favorite things about the season! Here are a few ways to up the cozy factor.
Add some texture with rugs! Swap out or layer on a shag rug in your bedroom or living room to give your feet a soft, warm spot when cold weather hits.
Drape a faux sheepskin style over your couch, on an ottoman, on the end of your bed, or on the floor at your bedside for even more cozy vibes. We hear little ones especially love this furry addition to your space!
Light all the candles! From tea lights in votives to yummy-smelling scents, candles are pretty much autumn’s BFF.
Bring the outside in with fall foliage from your yard or market. Have you seen how chic and rustic leafy branches look arranged in a vase? We rest our case!

Q: Looking for a rug with fall vibes—any recommendations?
A: Absolutely! Here’s what we’ve got in mind:
Roll out a rug with orange tones to mimic the fiery foliage seen outside your window. Our favorites? The Tasseled Medallion rug in rust (just look at those colors in the photo above!), our super-saturated Dynast rug in rust, or our Native Iris Medallion Washable rug in peach for an option that’s easy to clean.
Something more subdued more your vibe? We love the earthy richness that brown hues bring to a space—and they make a beautiful complement to darker-toned furnishings and a contrast to those on the lighter side. Check out our Distressed Foliage rug in light brown, Rosie Diamond Cotton-Blend rug in brown, or the Faux Cowhide rug for something a little funky.
Of course, we talk about fall-feeling rugs without bringing up cozy texture! Take a look at our Diamond Totem Shag with Tassels rug, Faux Sheepskin Shag rug, and Tribal Chevron Stripes rug to bring that plush, snuggly vibe to your space this season.
